BALLET DANCE CLASSES
Studying classical ballet develops poise, confidence, coordination and discipline. We teach the classical technique of the world-renowned International Dance Teachers’s Association (IDTA) syllabus.
CONTEMPORARY DANCE CLASSES
Contemporary dance provides an extension to the ballet and jazz dance technique. With emphasis on technique, dynamics and expressiveness, students explore use of alignment, gravity, contraction, release and suspension. Classes follow the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance (NZAMD) syllabus. Students must be enrolled in either ballet or jazz classes to qualify for training in contemporary at GCDA.
JAZZ DANCE CLASSES
Fast, upbeat, fun and a great workout too. Jazz class provides students with the chance to dance to a variety of modern music as well as a variety of dance styles, including classical jazz, lyrical, musical theatre and funk styles of jazz dance. These classes encourage musicality, strength, flexibility and the ability to think and learn quickly. Classes follow the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance (NZAMD) syllabus.
ADULT BALLET
Ballet provides an enjoyable way to keep fit whilst creating social bonds for adults as well as children. At GCDA we have a range of Adult Ballet classes to suit different levels.
The Level 1 class caters for those who danced as young children and would like to come back to dance as an adult or for those who have participated in a few terms of adult classes.
Level 2 is slightly more advanced and Level 3 is for those who have a more in-depth understanding and ability. Pointe work is offered for students at Level 3 (at the teacher’s discretion).
We occasionally run beginners courses. Please contact us if this is something you would be interested in.
